I've got a '78 E that I'll count as running. I got her off a friend who assured me she ran, but roughly. Still haven't fired her up after doing tank and carb work.
-don't know what that brings the totals to, but there's mine-Do what makes you happy.
'79 Honda CB 750 K (2)
'78 XS 11 E - "Rhona"
...and a 2nd E, for the goodies on it.

The 78E models were a different version from the 78 XS1100. Global regions like US model had "78E" version and Europe had "78". The bikes had differences like handlebars and the European model had an oil cooler. Other parts of the world might also have had "78E" maybe with different vin# designation for area, but I do know that the first year model in the US that the dealer sold was the 78E.
I do remember when the XS1100 or (1000??? as we were told) prototype was on its test run it had no markings to indicate what bike manufacturer it was. One of my co-workers at the shop ran into one of the test riders for yamaha just after he had completed his testing on the xs1100 and told him about the 1100. The poor test drivers next bike to run through it paces was a GT80. What a lot down from yamaha's powerhouse to putt-putt.Do'Lee

hi do lee,i was just wondering if we could do a thread with frame numbers as you have done with the bike totals but put the frame numbers in order so we can get a more accurate account of what or how many bikes were made and how many are still out there, what do you recon???we could do it so a thread will start with the code first so in total there would be about 26 different threads but we would get a exact and detailed list xs1100

hey scoobes,
Ok are you talking about doing something like what TC did on the "Member locator criteria"?
Yamaha U.S. model
Year/model 1979 XS1100SF
Frame # 3H3-0011565
Engine # 2H7-028028 (if different from frame)
and any other worthy info.
Maybe the Moderators could build a new forum folder or whatever it's called like Members Lounge or XS11/XJ Discussion and call it "XS11/XJ Bike Tally" or something like that. If it was on the main forum homepage the responce might be higher. Give them a go by as to what you want to see to make it easer to get a more accurate count on running bikes, bikes in limbo/restoration and partsers. With that said here's the latest count.
Now with 500 entries with 549 running, 42 limbo or in process of restoration and 52 partsters.
(35 runners, unknown models)
Break down of known bikes as follows (514)
78_________11
78E_______ 63
79F________72

80G________50
80SG_______74

1.1SPT______8

hi do lee, somethink like the locator would be fine but a little bit simpler, you now how hard it is to add up ,all that would be needed is
prefix 2h7 or 2h9 as is in the thread title of the thread then in the reply would be were the bike is located and the original country it came from, the whole frame no and the engine no weather it is the same or not.that way if a bike has been broken we can still see were its history is as to were the engine has gone, but in the first thread that should be a table in number order,so as members put there frame numbers in there reply to the thread a moderator can then transfere the numbers to the table and were the bike is located.i think i have put what i meant.
i will try to show you
thread title 2h9
frame no engine no coo loc
2h9 002999 2h9 002999 Italy UK
coo means country of origin and loc means what country it is located now.when i did the preview reply it did not look like i typed it in,i will email you how it should look.so a member will reply with his numbers and then a moderator can put the details on a chart so every one can see.
